چکیده
Whether non-compliance with hand sanitization is related to impatience or impulsivity an unresolved issue. Several studies have argued that not maintaining requirements during a pandemic could relate impulsivity. However, the of needs be investigated in pandemic-free situations, as government for influence subjective preferences. Little research, however, has examined such associations pandemic-neutral scenarios. To fill this gap, study assesses role two aspects time discounting—hyperbolic discounting and impatience—in influencing hand-sanitizing behavior Japan. The utilized waves 2021 2018 datasets derived from Japanese population-based survey Preference Parameters Study Osaka University (N = 725). probit regression results provide partial support deviation impulsive decision because phenomenon evident only females. There were no notable impacts variable any models specifications. Our provides important policy implications. We argue one-size-fits-all policies may solve associated hand-sanitization Japan problem commonly found among all respondents. Policymakers should consider underlying gender differences when designing future health-promoting measures.

One of the most basic predictions of almost any model of crime is that individual time preferences matter. However, empirical evidence on this fundamental property is essentially nonexistent. To our knowledge, this paper provides the first pieces of evidence on the link between time discounting and crime. We use a unique dataset that combines a survey-based measure of time discount rates (at ag...

Particularly, by separating the delay effect from the interval effect, the delay effect is found when the delay is relatively short, which has seldo...

The delay effect, that people discount the near future more than the distant future, has not been verified rigorously. An experiment conducted by us in China confirms that, by separating the delay from the interval, the delay effect exists only within a short delay. The results are reliable, because the rewards paid were very large, in order to elicit the subjects’ true preferences. The interva...

In exponential discounting, the fall of valuation depends by a constant factor ...
